Non-Prophets - “The Cure” (5:10)

I haven’t heard this song in a couple years but it wouldn’t get out of my mind tonight. It features one of my favorite two-verse song endings:

If half the battle is done right
the other half won’t take my health while jacking my shadow’s sunlight
to crack it open and find the space between my breaths are desolate
life is just a lie with an “f” in it and death is definite

But after I scratched the surface
I never saw the calm before the storm act so nervous
when a boy writes off the world it’s done with sloppy misspelled words
if a girl writes off the world it’s done in cursive

Sage Francis - “The Best of Times”

I’ll just leave this here for you all to watch.

Posted at 11:47am and tagged with: Sage Francis, Li(f)e,.

It’s going to be a heck of a night next Friday-

  1. My iPad is delivered, then
  2. I’m photographing the Sage Francis concert, then
  3. the Maximum Fun 2010 donation drive closing marathon

Thank goodness all three events are in the same day, otherwise I’d be too excited to sleep for weeks.

Sage Francis - “Worry Not” (3:19)

This is off of the Li(f)e album, which debuts in a week. Sage will be in town on the 28th and I’ll be photographing that amazing show.

This is a self-affirmation of sorts. It’s a reminder to myself, and hopefully to others, that we need to shed ourselves of the needless stress bestowed upon us via our home, work, school and religion. Certain types of stress are good for us. It can assist in our development, productivity and evolution. However, when we measure our worth by the arbitrary demands made by the institutions we are born into, there needs to be an awakening at some point where we think for ourselves and do for ourselves. That’s the best way to serve others (if you do, in fact, have a desire to serve others.) Since I tend to get wrapped up in my own work and responsibilities, this is as much a reminder to myself as it is to the listener. — Sage Francis in the liner notes

If you want another great track from this album, check out “London Bridge”- these tracks are completely new stylistic ground for Sage and subject matter that should not be nearly so catchy.

Sage Francis + Joe Beats (Non-Prophets) - “The Cure” (5:10)

Two keys for me:

“When a boy writes off the world it’s done with sloppy misspelled words / if a girl writes off the world it’s done in cursive”

and

“To crack it open and find the space between my breaths are desolate / life is just a lie with an “f” in it and death is definite”

This track came out in 2003, and in a couple months Sage’s “Li(f)e” album is released.

Edmonton, AB – The Starlite Room – 5/28/10

Great news for me! A version of me four years ago would have wanted nothing more in life than a Sage concert. The version of me two months from now is still very excited to get this experience (and naturally, get photos as always).
