Returning to a favorite love
10 hours until I have to be in a taxi to the airport. I still need to do laundry, pack everything, have dinner, and sleep.
The race against my many anxieties is on!
Oregon, I’m coming to see you again. This time it’s for 11 days.
Three years ago, when I first visited Portland and the mountains and then MaxFunCon and the mountains my brain and heart were changed for-ev-er. Within two hours of arrival I knew that as soon as I cleared my debts that Portland is the place where I’ll be spending as much of my time as possible.
I don’t have high hopes for this trip, I don’t need to hope, I already know how good Oregon is for me. The fact that it only takes me four hours to get there and 3 1/2 hours to get home (including layovers) never hurts, either.
Here’s ways in which this trip is already better than planned:
“Portland is a city where young people go to retire”
Here is the first promo for Portlandia, the show set in Portland that stars real-life friends Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein.
Everything about this video is true in my experience and exactly why I’m moving there as soon as my crushing debt load is cleared. That weird shine in his eyes and insistence on telling people about the city is what I’m sure I looked like when I came back from my first visit there.
I’ve now been retired for ten months. Portland is where I’ll get my weird life.

Sarah Harmer - “I Am Aglow” (2:44)
“Some might say I’m thinking in sin
So I’ll just sit back and take you in
You’re a map of a place; maybe someday I’ll go
With thoughts of you I am aglow”
Portland, you’re sure lookin’ fine to me.

56 pages and worth reading in its entirety. Good research. Tables of all data are at the end for those with shorter attention spans.

In-depth info on how Portland residents feel about their city.”

Mirah - Telephone Wires (live) (2:12)
The lyrics aren’t tied to anything in my life, it’s just a good song that a lot of people can probably identify with.
If you like the track, you will really like the album version on You Think It’s Like This, But Really It’s Like This.
YACHT - “I Believe in You” (3:05)
“Your magic’s real so why aren’t you using it?”
C’mon, everyone, the sun might be setting but this summer party doesn’t have to stop!
