Saw this movie again for the first time in a very long time, and was completely sucked in. The visuals alone are enough to divert, but, really, there is some fine acting and great depth to this film. I don’t usually expect that from films of this era, which largely contented themselves with satisfying formulas. This film is full of color and art and passion and conflict and beauty.
All of the above. Powell and Pressburger absolutely rule Technicolor.
The Red Shoes is a fantastic movie, and incredibly dark psychologically for that era. If anyone grabs the Criterion edition, you mustn’t miss Martin Scorsese’s commentary track.
Grab it, watch it, love it, then tell me your thoughts on it.
